A loyal dog brought food to her starving, chained companion to keep him alive.

Foster Demi rescued these two sweethearts from a dump site yesterday, as reported by Rescue Paws Curaçao (RPC). RPC is doing everything they can to support her. Demi, the rescuer, shares their story below:

“Today started like any other—wake up, get ready for work, and so on. On my way to work, I passed a well-known dog dump (with both dead and alive dogs). This is where my own dog is from, and it’s also where I found two puppies, Milli and Mia, last week. I regularly feed the packs of dogs that live there. I was searching for the brothers and a woman I often see in the area.”

“I approached the big feeder where the dogs have been sitting a lot lately, but they weren’t there. However, I noticed something different. I stopped and got out of my car. There were two extremely thin dogs and a pile of bones. They must have been dumped recently because I didn’t recognize them, and I had only passed by the area yesterday evening.”

Demi said she saw one of the dogs bring food to the other, perhaps trying to save her friend.

One of the dogs couldn’t move, so weak. He also had a chain around his neck, which we were able to remove. We gave them food and water, and thankfully, they accepted it.

I had to go to work, but I couldn’t stop thinking about them. I displayed the photos at work and shared my concerns. I was terrified that someone else might find them and choose not to give them a chance. They looked very similar to Finn and Kay. We also found Finn and Kay to be extremely thin, with a collar around Kay’s neck.

Glad after a few hours at work they said go get them

I drove as fast as I could, still wearing my wetsuit. Luckily, they were still there. I rushed them directly to the vet and asked the vet to be honest with me because there’s not much I can do if they’re too sick and too weak. After some examination, she concluded that they most likely have Carpathian disease and are severely malnourished.

She’s confident they can be saved . She gave them some shots with meds, tomorrow I have to go back for shots again. They can’t take oral pills because their stomach can’t handle it. We can feed them small amounts of chicken and rice several times per day, and we’ll see more in a week.

They weigh 9 pounds as much as our 15 week old foster pup.. The male is the weakest, unable to walk on his own. They consume food and beverages.

They are safe at Rescue Paws Curaçao house now apart from the other 7 dogs (6 fosters) . They will do everything possible to save them, and hopefully they will survive.”
